Instructions to Make Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls
- Combine the yeast, 2 T sugar, and warm water in a small bowl. Put aside to allow the yeast to proof. Combine the oil, salt, and 1/2 cup sugar in a mixing bowl. Mix in the yeast mixture. One cup of flour at a time should be added until the dough begins to separate from the bowl's sides. In a mixer, knead for five minutes. The dough should hold together well but still be soft. Remove the dough hooks from bowl before it rises, and then cover and let it rise in a warm, dry location until it doubles in size.
- Peel and chop apples while the dough rises. In the 1 T butter, sauté them until they start to turn golden brown and are just starting to soften.
- Dump the dough onto a floured surface after it has risen. Roll out to roughly 16 x 20 inches. Cover the entire slab of dough with room temperature (not melted) butter. It's just easier to do this part with hands. Evenly distribute cinnamon and brown sugar. Over the sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle the apples. Cut the dough into 12 slices after rolling it up. Use the dental floss method (search for it online; it's the most effective!). Arrange the rolls evenly on a cookie sheet and bake them in a warm oven for about 20 minutes at 195 degrees until they are nice and plump. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and leave the cinnamon rolls there. Bake until nicely golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
- While the cinnamon rolls are cooling down a bit, combine the icing. Beat the butter, vanilla, whole milk, and powdered sugar until smooth and delicious. Enjoy warm (not too hot) rolls covered with icing!
