Dessert for breakfast?
As far as overnight breakfast
recipes go, this bananas Foster French toast casserole is without a doubt the
best. Bananas Foster French toast requires an overnight soak, so you'll need to
prepare ahead of time, but it's quite easy to make.
Challah bread bathed in a
vanilla-laced custard will be added after the bottom of the pan has been filled
with buttery caramel, ripe bananas, and crunchy pecans. When the breakfast
casserole is done baking, turn it over so the nutty banana caramel layer is on
top. This dish is a visual and gustatory feast when it comes to rich French
toast.

- Put the rest of the ingredients in a blender and blend just until combined. Drizzle over toast. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
- Turn the oven on to 375°. While the oven is heating up, take the French toast out of the refrigerator. Bake, uncovered, for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Give it a good five to ten minutes. To serve, invert.
Bananas Foster French Toast Variations
Try a
variety of breads: Don't limit yourself to enriched
breads. Sourdough French toast, French bread, or traditional white bread all
work equally well. Once more, a little stale is ideal; to somewhat dry it out,
you can also roast the bread in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
Use
other nuts: Macadamia nuts, peanuts, hazelnuts,
and almonds are all excellent in this dish, but walnuts are a particularly
tasty accompaniment to anything banana.
Bake
it in a pie pan: Although banana foster French toast
makes a fantastic casserole, a pie pan works just as well.
