Oven French Toast with Nut Topping Recipe

Ingredients to Make Oven French Toast with Nut Topping

  • One 12-oz loaf of French bread, sliced into 1-inch pieces
  • Eight large eggs
  • Two cups 2% milk
  • Two cups of cream, half-and-half
  • Two teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • Half a teaspoon of nutmeg, ground
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Half a teaspoon of ground mace

Topping:

  • One and 1/3 cups of brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup softened butter
  • Three tablespoons of dark corn syrup
  • One and 1/3 cups of chopped hickory, walnut, or pecan nuts

Directions to Make Oven French Toast with Nut Topping

  • Place bread slices in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish that has been well greased until they are 1/2 inch from the top; set aside.
  • Put the eggs, milk, cream, mace, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla in a blender. Cover and process until well combined. Drizzle over slices of bread. Refrigerate overnight with a lid on.
  • Half an hour before baking, take it out of the fridge. Meanwhile, mix the ingredients for the topping. Spread over top.
  • Bake uncovered for 50 to 55 minutes at 350° until golden and puffed. (If the top browns too quickly, cover with foil.)
